Project Type:
Vehicle, Hard Toy, Fidget Toy
Orbit is a character-driven UFO alien spinning top that combines playful design, tactile engagement, and collectible charm. Created as both a toy and a display piece, Orbit turns a whimsical sci-fi character into a functional spinning top, complemented by a minimalist beam stand for both play and presentation.
Beam Stand
The minimalist beam stand serves as both a display base and a practical element of play, supporting Orbit during use while reinforcing its UFO-inspired character and aesthetic.

Edition Variants
Orbit is available in two distinct surface-pattern versions — Ripple Edition and Nova Edition — adding variety to the collection while preserving a strong, recognizable identity.

Spin function
The antenna serves as both a character detail and a functional handle, allowing Orbit to spin with a flick of the thumb and index finger. This dual-purpose feature helps merge play and personality, turning a visual element of the character into an intuitive point of interaction.
Concept Board
This concept board was created with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to finalize my idea before building the model.

3D Printing Process
Orbit was developed through a digital design and fabrication workflow that used 3D printing both for prototyping and for small-batch production. Repeated print testing helped refine form, fit, weight, balance, and assembly, allowing the design to evolve through physical iteration. For this project, 3D printing is not just a prototyping tool but an accessible manufacturing method—offering a more flexible and affordable alternative to traditional overseas production for limited-run objects.
Ideation
Below illustrates the development and research process that led to the creation of the final piece.
