Project Type:
Vehicle, Hard Toy
Armor-Drillo is a versatile toy that switches from a drill to a helicopter. I designed this durable toy as part of my BFA Toy Design Program thesis project. The project also included creating a 3D model using SolidWorks and crafting it in the machine shop of the "F.I.T.’s Toy Design" program. This toy can activate its drill or propellers in both modes by pushing it forward. Armor-Drillo is equipped with two front cameras for drill mode and three rear cameras for helicopter mode, acting as the eyes of the machine. It features four grills at the front—two on each side of two yellow armor pieces. Additionally, it has tank tracks for wheels, engines, and distinctive piping details that extend from the toy.
Drill Mode
Armor-Drillo features two cameras for drill mode. Transform to engage its drill by pushing it forward.
Helicopter Mode
Armor-Drillo features three rear cameras for helicopter mode, acting as the machine's eyes. Transform to engage the propellers by pushing them forward while in helicopter mode.
Ideation
Below illustrates the development and research process that led to the creation of the final piece.
