Project Type:
Vehicle, Hard Toy
The Manta Ray is a toy airplane I constructed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, I illustrated the concept design, then created a 3D model using SolidWorks. I 3D printed the parts and painted them with spray and model enamel paints. I assembled the components and finalized the electrical wiring, including LED lights and an on/off switch. During this process, I experimented with new techniques and materials, such as special-effect spray paints like glitter. I also transferred my designs from Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator onto the physical prototype.
Concept Board
This concept board was created with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to finalize my idea before building the model.
Push Powered
The propeller of the plane operates via a push-powered mechanism featuring a blend of flat and bevel gears.
Lights
The power switch is situated at the plane's bottom. Toggle it to turn the front headlights on and off, illuminating your dark space.
Ideation
Below illustrates the development and research process that led to the creation of the final piece.
