Storybook, Plush Toy

"At the world’s center stands a massive tree visible even from space. In this tree resides a town where many birds live in peace and harmony, engaging in daily activities, creating, and participating in community life. Rocket, a bird who cannot fly, is an inventor who devises various inventions aimed at achieving flight. Unfortunately, his inventions consistently fail. After feeling defeated, he receives support from his best friend and sister, encouraging him to try again. Will Rocket's creations succeed? Will he finally take to the skies?"

As part of my BFA Toy Design Program thesis project, I wrote and illustrated this storybook, drawing inspiration from my personal interests. This project included conceptualizing two toy products based on my book and creating a plush toy prototype featuring my character from the story.

Rocket

Rocket is an intelligent bird who has consistently displayed innovation and a desire to invent for a better world. He tends to be shy around other birds but is very passionate about his hobby of building. When engaged in building, he becomes lively with enthusiasm. Though deeply interested in inventing, Rocket is independent and doesn’t socialize frequently.

Sophie

Sophie is Rocket’s delightful little sister. Always curious, she keeps an eye on what other birds are doing. When she discovered what Rocket was working on, she eventually stepped in as his little assistant. A truthful bird, Sophie never hesitates to speak her mind.

Tommy

Tommy is Rocket’s closest friend. He provides honest advice to Rocket. Tommy shows bravery by expressing the truth for the bird’s benefit. He remains polite and never disrespects others, even when they are unkind to him.

Clicking Mechanism

Each rotation activates a clicking mechanism, enhancing user interaction with precisely calibrated components for smoother disc movement.

Rocket Plush Toy

I constructed a plush toy inspired by Rocket, the main character from my children's book, and included two illustrative toy ideas that I also conceptualized.

Ideation

Below illustrates the development and research process that led to the creation of the final piece.
